Anuga FoodTech 2012: All about OPTIQUAD

This year, KROHNE is exhibiting at Anuga FoodTech for the first time. The highlights at the booth B049 in Hall 8.1 will be the two OPTIQUAD versions that were introduced in late 2011. OPTIQUAD is a spectroscopic analysis system for inline measurement of ingredients for dairy applications. It uses up to four optical methods. Thanks to this, the system can be used for a variety of applications.

"The fair provides an excellent opportunity to introduce many users to the novel opportunities of a continuous inline measurement that the OPTIQUAD devices provide."

Currently, two versions are available: OPTIQUAD-M 4050 W and OPTIQUAD-WW 4050 W. OPTIQUAD-M can be used for the inline measurement of protein, fat and lactose in milk products. The system offers operators of dairies and cheese dairies new opportunities when it comes to process optimisation and quality improvement. Unlike sampling with laboratory analysis, in which case the data is only available after a delay and where any intervention into the process is also correspondingly late, the OPTIQUAD-M analysis system measures the ingredients continuously and without contact using optical spectroscopy. Typical applications include the increase of protein content in the cheesemaking milk/vat milk, standardisation of fat content in drinking milk or setting a constant ratio of fat to protein in cheese production.

OPTIQUAD WW is used for continuous inline measurement of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in dairy wastewater. Dairies and cheese dairies measure COD between the production process and the inlet of the treatment plant in order to detect product loss early on and to optimise biological wastewater quantities. Unlike other COD analysis systems that typically use one optical principle and one wavelength, the OPTIQUAD WW uses up to four optical principles and up to twelve wavelengths. This results in an accurate, stable measurement over a broad measuring range, even with media of different consistencies or featuring very high COD loads.
